Fees

Making Life Simpler...

...and less expensive. You told us you loved our service but felt our fees were a bit high and sometimes confusing. We listened. We are delighted to announce that as of January 1, 2012, we have a new fee structure.

What improvements can you expect?

  • Lower costs on regular document orders
  • New priority options for urgent orders
  • Simplified research assistance charges where you get the first 20 minutes free and pay just $15 for every 15 minutes after that

Research/Online Searching
Research assistance fee $50 per hour for legislative history; $25 minimum for complex case law, statute, or literature research; $10 for a noteup First 20 minutes free, thereafter $15 for every 15 minutes

Note: A cancellation fee of $10 will be charged on any request cancelled after we start work on filling the request. The cancellation fee recognizes the effort and expense involved in processing your request and starting to pull documents and materials to fill your request.

 

Examples

To give you the flavour of how our fees have changed, here are three examples. 

Example 1: Document delivery

You call in to request two cases. You prefer digital formats where available. The first case is available through Westlaw LawSource and turns out to be 16 pages. The second needs to be copied from a print law reporter and is 64 pages long.

Example 2: Note-up

You would like to see how the three cases that you plan on relying on next week have been considered. You order note-ups for all three. It takes our staff 10 minutes to note-up the cases and email you the results.

Example 3: Research assistance

You are drafting estate planning documents for a client and would like to see an example clause for a will that can provide for a trust to be set up for a disabled adult child. You would also like to see a Standard Representation Agreement for Healthcare. We find you two sample clauses from two separate texts and locate a Standard Representation Agreement in Word format as well as, from a print source, an annotated agreement with certificates. This takes our staff one hour to complete.
