Legislative Research

Need to do some legislative research and the thought makes you cringe? Fear not – at the Courthouse Library, we actually enjoy dealing with legislation. Let the expertise of our librarians make your life easier!

If you need to:

  • Ensure legislation is in force
  • Update legislation
  • Find legislation at a particular point in time
  • Trace back a section or an entire act/reg to its origin
  • Find the legislative intent of a provision

We can help – either by assisting you with your research or by doing it for you. With access to both current and historical materials, we have the necessary resources to find what you’re looking for.

Many of the legislation questions that we answer, we do without any charge to you. Those that involve extensive research (eg. legislative histories, some point-in-time questions), do have associated research charges, which are always discussed in advance. Copying and printing charges are extra. Contact us for further details.

Is it in force?

Wondering if an act has come into force yet? Check our Canada Proclamations or BC Proclamations or contact us - we track legislative changes and can quickly tell you.
