Amendments to the Supreme Court of British Columbia Court Record Access Policy

The Court Record Access Policy sets out the Supreme Court of British Columbia’s policy for public access to the court record.  The Policy has been amended to incorporate Media Access Request Forms 1, 2, and 3  The Forms were first introduced in May 2018, in order to facilitate requests by accredited members of the media for access to court exhibits, and requests for access to notices of application and affidavits in criminal proceedings.  

The amendments include the following:

•       Section 2.1.2A regarding access to the court file in criminal proceedings;
•       Sections 2.4.1.4 and 2.4.1.5 regarding access to court exhibits in criminal proceedings;
•       Sections 2.4.2.4 and 2.4.2.5 regarding access to court exhibits in civil proceedings; and
•       Appendices C, D, and E, appending the Accredited Media Access Request Forms 1, 2, and 3.

The current version of the Court Record Access Policy is available on the court website under “Supreme Court Policies” and is attached below. 

Forms 1-3 can be found on the court website on the Media tab under “Media Access Request” or in the file attached below.
