From March 2, 2022:
The provincial government has introduced two Attorney General bills to better serve British Columbians by improving access to services and making it easier to handle cross-border child support matters.
The two new bills are Bill 8 Attorney General Statutes (Hague Convention on Child and Family Support) Amendment Act, 2022 and Bill 9 Attorney General Statutes Amendment Act, 2022. The proposed amendments will have various impacts, including:
- Giving the Law Foundation of BC and Notary Foundation of BC the ability to protect their revenue stream over time
- Changing in the method of judicial oversight and the resolution of motor vehicle accident claims at the Civil Resolution Tribunal
- Implementation of the 2007 Hague Convention on the International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family Maintenance in BC.
- Minor changes to the Family Law Act to expand the Child Support Recalculation Service.
