The Organization
Courthouse Libraries BC (CLBC) is a non-profit society under BC’s Societies Act with a mission to provide the public and the legal community with legal resources, librarian expertise and informed referrals to help people research and manage their legal issues. We maintain a physical presence in 30 libraries across the province of BC; our clients include the public, lawyers, the judiciary, students and notaries. We offer our services through a blend of expertise, technology and physical space. Our staff complement includes 36 full-time and 28 part-time staff, concentrated primarily in Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, New Westminster, Prince George, Vancouver, and Victoria.

The Opportunity
The board, which is composed of a mix of lawyers and other professionals, is seeking up to three new board members at this time.
The board of CLBC strives to ensure that board members, as a whole, bring a diverse set of skills and attributes, and that the board is reflective of the community it serves across BC. Following a recent assessment of the board’s current complement against our skills and diversity matrix, at this time we are actively seeking applicants from the following priority groups:
- Indigenous individuals, including First Nations, Inuit and Métis;
- Individuals with lived experience as a member of a historically underrepresented community (e.g. racialized individuals, persons with disabilities, persons who identify as LGBTQ2S+);
- Individuals who live in BC communities outside the Lower Mainland and major urban centres; and/or
- Individuals with lived experience seeking access to justice, or professional experience supporting others seeking such access.
The Commitment
The board meets approximately 4-6 times a year via videoconference or (when possible) in Vancouver. Meetings are usually about three hours long. Board members are appointed for a term of two years and may be reappointed for up to three consecutive terms. Board members are not paid, but are entitled to reasonable expenses relating to board business, including travel to and from board meetings.
