Reminders: Upcoming Webinar & Legal Display Kit

How time flies! With summer almost upon us, the LawMatters team wanted to give you all a quick reminder of a few of our current initiatives:

Webinar on Community Forums

In our previous post, we discussed the release of the Community Forum series final report, Forging Strong Connections: the vital role of BC’s legal intermediaries, which discusses the findings of the 2021 virtual forum series. In addition to publishing the report, LawMatters, along with PovNet and Legal Aid BC, will be hosting a webinar on May 30th from 1:00-2:00 PM PDT to present the report’s findings and discuss next steps when it comes to establishing connections among service providers and providing access to justice for our patrons and clients. This session will be relevant to all attendees of the forums and any other legal intermediaries (advocates, library workers, lawyers, etc.) interested in learning more about access to justice issues in BC.

Forging Strong Connections: The vital role of BC’s legal intermediaries

Monday, May 30th from 1:00-2:00 PM PDT

Register here

The presentation part of the meeting will be recorded so those who cannot attend live can still hear about the report findings. Attendees will be invited to participate during the discussion portion in whatever way works best for them. We hope to see you there!

Legal Display Kit

We also wanted to give a reminder about the 2022 Legal Display Kit, which features free plain language print materials from Legal Aid BC. This Kit is only available for a limited time and is a great option to provide patrons legal information in a print format. The Basic Kit includes subjects such as family law, Aboriginal law, and child protection, with add-ons in subjects such as immigration and options for multi-lingual resources.

If you’d like to order a Kit for your library, you can download the order form and send it to us at lawmatters@courthouselibrary.ca or directly to Legal Aid BC at publications@lss.bc.ca.
