To begin legal proceedings against a business or company, the registered business number that belongs to it is often required. Locating a business number in BC requires searching the BC Corporate Registry. The registry is not available online, but can be searched for a fee through a number of methods:
1) The registry search request can be made by phone by contacting the registry’s preferred service provider Dye & Durham at either (250) 953-1700 (for Victoria) or 1-800-665-6211 (elsewhere in the province).Though Dye & Durham is the preferred provider, other title search companies may be used instead.
2) The request can be mailed directly to the registry or by courier. The registry recommends contacting their Certificates section to calculate the cost of your request before sending anything by mail.
3) A request can be made in person at a ServiceBC location either by yourself or a representative of a title search company on your behalf. The ServiceBC page shows the locations of all ServiceBC offices in British Columbia. Note that there is no office in the Greater Vancouver area.
The fee structure is available at the bottom of the BC Registry Services page.
