Chief Judge Gillespie has issued an update effective 24 October 2025 to the GEN 05 [link to PDF] practice direction: Non-Lawyers Appearing for Clients (previously titled Non-Lawyers Appearing for Clients in Court). Paragraph 5 was changed to allow non-lawyer agents to appear to fix dates on criminal, family or small claims matters. Changes were also made to some of the wording within the practice direction (changing “in court” to “before the court”).
