CRIMINAL CODE [FEDERAL] CHAPTER C-46 [R.S. 1985] — Early Consolidation

NOTE: This is an early consolidation of amendments made by federal Bills C-14, 2026, c. 11, the Bail and Sentencing Reform Act, C-225, 2026, c. 12, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, C-9, 2026, c. 15, Combatting Hate Act, and C-16, 2026, c. 16, Protecting Victims Act.

Bill C-14 makes targeted changes to Canada's bail and sentencing regime, with a focus on stricter bail rules for violent and repeat offending, organized crime, auto theft, extortion, break and enter, human trafficking and certain offences involving choking, suffocation or strangulation. The Bill will come into force on July 15, 2026.

Bill C-225 introduces several major reforms to strengthen legal protections against intimate partner violence. The Bill will come into force on July 17, 2026.

Bill C-9 strengthens hate crime laws and protects vulnerable communities and will come into force on July 18, 2026.

Bill C-16 introduces major reforms regarding gender-based violence, intimate partner violence, and child protection and will come into force on July 18, 2026.
