The Courthouse Libraries BC is proud to support the Criminal Defense Advocacy Society (CDAS) in presenting: New Search Powers in Bill C-2 (the Strong Borders Act): Are They Constitutional?
The new Liberal border bill contains a host of new investigative search powers, along with a long sought after regime for compelling electronic service providers to assist in police access to private data. This presentation will place the new powers in context and comment on their constitutional validity.
Robert Diab is a Professor in the Faculty of Law at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops BC, and a co-author of Search and Seizure (Irwin Law, 2023). His scholarship and commentary on law, technology, and privacy has appeared in venues that range from the McGill and Osgoode Hall Law Journals to Tech Policy Press and Newsweek. He has contributed to federal and provincial commissions of inquiry, and continues to be involved in criminal and constitutional litigation.
