Court Reporters and Transcribers
Last revised February 05, 2026
Audio tapes are now the official records of the Supreme Court of BC. There are no longer court reporters on staff.
Court reporters are certified by the provincial government. They work independently and may be contracted by law firms or individuals for their services.
Anyone wishing to order a transcript of civil proceedings or oral reasons must contact a transcriber directly. In Vancouver, individuals may contact the In Court Technologies department in the Vancouver Registry for assistance. Some transcripts, such as those of oral reasons, require judge approval before being released.
Transcripts of criminal court proceedings must be ordered from the specific agency designated as the government agent.
