Name changes - Publication
Last revised March 26, 2026

Prior to 2003, section 12 of the Name Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 328 required name changes to be published in the BC Gazette.  This requirement was removed by the Deregulation Statutes Amendment Act, 2002, SBC 2002, c.12, s.27, effective 19 December 2002 (BC Regulation 381/02).

The publication requirement was initially introduced by the Change of Name Act, SBC 1940, c.3, s. 10. Prior to that, there were no such requirements.

There is no other public listing.  Individuals or companies may request name change information from the Chief Executive Officer of the Vital Statistics Agency. Information about applying to get a certificate of name change can be found on the Vital Statistics website.
