Permanent Daylight Saving Time in BC
Last revised March 11, 2026
The March 8th, 2026 spring forward into daylight saving time was the last time change in BC. BC Regulation 20/2026 brought the Interpretation Amendment Act, SBC 2019, c. 41, s. 1, into effect Sunday, March 9, 2026 and repealed the daylight savings time Regulation 136/2006. This changed the Interpretation Act to make daylight saving time (DST) permanent, and established a new time zone, the Pacific time zone.
Pacific time will align with Yukon time year round, and with Alberta and BC regions observing Mountain time from March to November. From March to November, Pacific time will align with California, Washington, Oregon and other Pacific daylight jurisdictions.
History
The Daylight Saving Time Regulation, BC Regulation No. 136/2006, set out the time and date of daylight saving time in BC. According to that regulation, in British Columbia daylight savings time commences at 2 o'clock in the forenoon on the second Sunday of March and ends at 2 o'clock in the forenoon on the first Sunday of November. The regulation is made under the authority of the Interpretation Act, R.S.B.C. 1996 c.238, section 26. The Miscellaneous Statutes Amendment Act, S.B.C. 2018 c. 5, section 4 repealed and substituted new text for section 26 of the Interpretation Act, which states that "Pacific Daylight Savings Time" means 7 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time and "Pacific Standard Time" means 8 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time.
