List of Recommended Free Legal Publications - Now Updated!

Public legal education and information (PLEI) organizations in BC offer legal information in several formats, including online, print, and printable formats. We know patrons often prefer print resources over online resources, but it's not always easy to locate these materials or know if they’re reliable and relevant to BC.  

To help with this, the LawMatters team has created a list of recommended free legal information publications available in print or printable formats (PDF). These publications are created by trusted public legal information publishers and focus on legal information specific to BC. All publications are written with the public in mind, are in plain language, and are free to access. Publications cover a wide variety of legal topics your patrons may have questions about, including family law, tenancy, immigration, wills and estates, and much more.

You may remember our previous recommended title list of free print publications, which featured solely legal information publications available in print. Overall, there has been a shift toward providing legal information in solely or primarily online formats like websites. This new and revamped Publications list contains publications that are:  

  • Available to order in print for free and/or 
  • Available as PDFs which can be downloaded and printed easily 

If you find that your patrons have a need for these PDF materials to be printed for them, you can use part of your LawMatters' grant to cover these printing costs. If you'd like to do so, please reach out to the LawMatters team at lawmatters@courthouselibrary.ca.  

We’ve also updated our Law Books for Libraries and Law Books for Kids lists to include titles published in the latter part of the year.
