Finding a business number in BC
Last revised September 03, 2026

The business number (BN) is a unique number assigned to a company by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).  Business owners use this number to identify their company for tax filing, collecting GST and communications with government agencies.

A business number is different than an incorporation number (corporate registry number) which legally identifies a company incorporated under BC law.

If a company's business number is needed, there are a couple of ways to search and obtain this number for a company registered in BC.

Free Online Services

OrgBook BC is a searchable public directory provided by the BC Government’s Ministry of Citizens’ Services. It contains British Columbia-registered organizations, as well as licenses, permits and other official data related to those organizations. OrgBook can be searched by name, business number or BC Registries ID.

Canada’s Business Registries is another free directory of information about businesses within Canada. You can search for a business by name, business number or Registry ID and the results will show the legal name, status, location, province of registration and link to the official registry source.
