The Lawyer Referral Service is changing! You may have used this service in the past if your patrons asked you to find or recommend a lawyer for them. Now called the Legal Referral Service (LRS), this service can connect your patrons with not only with lawyers, but with notaries and designated paralegals as well!
LRS continues to offer the same service: connecting BC residents with legal professionals for free consultations. This consultation helps the legal professional determine whether they are willing and able to help with the legal issue at hand and allows the client to learn more about the services the legal professional can provide and what fees would apply if retained. There is no obligation to retain the legal professional after consultation and people can use LRS as many times as they like.
So, what’s changed?
- The Legal Referral Service now connects BC residents to lawyers, notaries, and designated paralegals. They will also refer people for unbundled legal services where suitable.
- Free consultations range from 15 to 30 minutes, rather than only 15 minutes.
- $25 booking fees apply for website bookings (available 24/7) and for callers whose total annual household income in the last year was $100,000 or greater – for all other callers, the service is free!
- To get in touch by email, use lrs@accessprobono.ca. To get in touch by phone, use 604-687-3221; phone service is available Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4:30. There is no longer a toll-free number for LRS.
